8B.1 Passif direct – (Gérondif passé)(Appendix C - Le Passif – The Passive Formats) … en + ayant été + verbe principal (p.p.)(e.s.es) (Note: When using the "Passif direct" format, the subject of the verb "être" must also be the direct object of the participe passé (p.p.) of the main verb, and because it also precedes the p.p., the p.p. agrees in gender and in number with that subject/direct object.) |

Example 1 (masculin singulier)
En ayant été affecté à des postes à l'étranger, le directeur connaissait bien plusieurs pays. By having been assigned to foreign posts, the (male) director knew several countries well. By having gotten assigned to foreign posts, the (male) director knew several countries well.
Example 2 (féminin singulier)
En ayant été affectée à des postes à l'étranger, la directrice connaissait bien plusieurs pays. By having been assigned to foreign posts, the (female) director knew several countries well. By having gotten assigned to foreign posts, the (female) director knew several countries well. |
