Imparfait avec "depuis" – actif (Basic format)

1.  Follow the same steps as for the Imparfait - Actif (Basic format) (Section 10A)

2.  Then add the special word "depuis" followed by an  amount of time or a moment in time.

Examples:

With verbs of ACTION

Example 1 (masculin / féminin singulier)

Il (elle) parlait depuis dix minutes.

He (she) had been speaking / had been talking for ten minutes. (and still was)

He (she) had spoken / had talked for ten minutes. (and still was)

Example 2 (masculin / féminin singulier)

Il (elle) travaillait depuis midi.

He (she) had been working since noon. (and still was)

He (she) had worked since noon. (and still was)

With verbs of CONDITION or STATE

Example 3 (masculin / féminin singulier)

Il (elle) était membre de ce club depuis des années.

He (she) had been a member of that club for years. (and still was)

Example 4 (masculin / féminin singulier)

Il (elle) avait mal à la tête depuis la veille.

He (she) had had a headache since the previous day. (and still had it)
