Passif direct – (Participe passé)

"être"(Participe passé)  +  verbe principal (p.p.)(e.s.es)

[Limitation]: Can only be used with direct objects. (Fully described and illustrated in Appendix C.)

The p.p. of "être" is used to create the "Passif direct" (Passive voice) in compound tenses only if preceded by the auxiliary verb "avoir" (Infinitif, or conjugated).

Note:  The "Passif direct" of compound tenses will always use "été" (the participe passé of "être") in the creation of the passive voice with direct objects.

(Note on participe passé agreement with other words:

When using the "Passif direct – Option 1" format of any tense, the subject of the verb "être" must also be the direct object of the participe passé (p.p.) of the main verb, and because it also precedes the p.p., the p.p. agrees in gender and in number with that subject/direct object.)
