Impératif présent – actif (Basic format)

The rules to build the Impératif présent are very simple:

A)   For verbs ending in "-er"

1.  Take the "tu", "nous" or "vous" form of the verb in the Présent-Indicatif (Section 35A)

→  tu parles,  nous parlons,  vous parlez

2.  Remove the subject pronouns ("tu", "nous" or "vous")

→  parles,  parlons,  parlez

3.  Remove the "s" from any "-es" and "-as" endings

(ex: verb parler - tu parles;  verb aller - tu vas) , and keep the other endings the same.

→  parle,  parlons,  parlez

→  va,  allons,  allez

B)   For verbs not ending in -er, keep the final "-s" on the "tu" form.

C)   Exceptions (with special spellings for tu, nous, and vous):

"être" (to be):  "sois, soyons, soyez"

"avoir" (to have):  "aie, ayons, ayez"

"vouloir" (to want):  "veuille,  veuillons, veuillez"

"savoir" (to know):  "sache, sachons, sachez"
